Sporting Life Ontario Open and Roman Cup; July 29 – August 3
It was a great week of action in Ottawa at both tournaments! The Roman Cup had 441 entries in the U12, 14 and 16 which served as a national qualifier as well as the U18 division. The Ontario Open held a 64 men's draw and a 32 women's in both doubles and singles! The Open saw Oliver Becerra win the men's and Petra Januskova win the women's. The Rideau Club hosted the Roman Cup Pro-Am with all proceeds going to Ottawa area players. Special thanks to Hank Shannon and his team a sporting life for supporting this tournament. Thanks to Tony Roth and the Ottawa Athletic club for hosting the Roman Cup and to the Rideau Club for hosting the Roman Cup as well as the Sporting Life Ontario Open. Thanks to everyone else involved including players, parents and coaches for making this year's tournaments a huge success!
Rogers Cup Pre-Qualifiers
The second round of the Rogers Cup pre-qualifying competition finished on Wednesday at Aviva Centre. The field of eight was narrowed to four vying for a chance to secure one of two wild cards into this weekend's qualifying draw for Rogers Cup presented by National Bank.
In the first match of the day, Sonja Molnar defeated Vanessa Wong 6-0, 7-6(4). In the following match, Bianca Andreescu ousted Erin Routliffe 6-1, 6-2 to advance. Molnar and Andreescu will go head-to-head on Thursday with the winner earned a wild card.
In the second half of the draw, Petra Januskova triumphed over Isabelle Boulais 6-4, 6-1 while Lauren Chypyha fell to Natasha Irani in three sets 2-6, 6-3, 6-4. Januskova will face Irani on Thursday for the wild card spot.
The Rogers Cup pre-qualifying competition will take place from August 4 to 6 at Aviva Centre, with two players earning a wild card into the qualifying tournament of Rogers Cup presented by National Bank. The qualifying draw runs over August 8 and 9 during Pizzaville Free Community Weekend.
Mini Rogers Cup at Mayfair
On Saturday August 4th we held our first ever Mini Rogers Cup at Mayfair Parkway. An amazing time was had by all that came out, whether it was to watch or play! The level of play and sportsmanship by all the kids was something to be proud of. Thank you to all the parents, coaches and sponsors who made this fantastic day possible. The winners and runner ups will be recognized on center court at the beginning of the Wednesday August 12th nigh session and will enjoy the night's matches from the Pizzaville Suite.

Mini Rogers Cup at HTO Park with Milos and Eugenie
On Wednesday July 22, Rogers, Tennis Canada and Tennis Ontario teamed up to celebrate the Mini Rogers Cup underway at clubs across Ontario. The event was held atop a barge docked at HTO park and was enjoyed by the kids and fans watching alike. Milos and Eugenie helped the kids with their tennis skills during a clinic on the barge and answered questions from fans on the shore.

Valentina Moseychuk is a Graduate of the Russian Academy of Physical Development and Sport with a Coach 2 Certification from Tennis Canada. Valentina also has a Pro Coaching Category in Russia. She has over 10 years of coaching experience with various tennis programs for players of all ages and levels. Her passion is the development of athletes in the under 12 age category. Valentina's knowledge and dedication help her players achieve their potential from building proper tennis technique to successful performance in tournaments.

Head Coach: Pavel Lupych
Pavel is a certified Tennis Canada Coach 2, Club Pro 2 and Coach 3 candidate. He has been involved in teaching tennis since 2000 in both Europe and Canada. He began playing tennis at the age of 5 and was a National level junior player in Ukraine and played ATP satellites in Europe. During his career, he has enjoyed working with all ages and levels – from top ITF juniors to beginner adults. His coaching career has taken him to North York Tennis Association, Eglinton Flats Winter Tennis Club and The Mayfair Clubs. He is currently serving as the Head Professional at Don Mills Tennis Club during the Spring and Summer and is part of the coaching team at the Under 10 National Training Centre.

Tomasz Blazejewski is a certified Tennis Canada Coach 3. He received a Tennis Scholarship at the Georgia Southwestern University from 1998 - 2001. As part of the Tennis Canada Mentor Program from 2010 - 2013, Tomasz travelled with the U12 Canadian Team with Andre Labelle to Auray Super 12 in France as well as the U12 Canadian Team with Pierre Luc to Germany for a month, playing 3 Tennis Europe Tournaments. Tomasz has coached in the PTC Programs since 2008, has been an U12 Provincial Coach since 2010 and coached and developed Bianca Andreescu from ages 9 - 13.

Tennis Marathon for Heart and Stroke Foundation, Aug. 17/18
Stan Palmateer will be playing in his 26th annual 24 hour tennis marathon for The Heart and Stroke Foundation on Saturday August 22 through to Sunday August 23 from noon to noon at Mimico Tennis Club! Recently Stan has won a local award for all his work with The Heart and Stroke Foundation by playing in annual tennis marathons. Not only will there be amazing tennis played on his court for 24 hours but there will be wonderful matches on all three courts with off-court activities as well. Sahaj of the OTA's Raise the Net program will be there on Saturday afternoon to add to the festivities. There will be a barbecue on Saturday evening and a pancake breakfast on Sunday morning with a raffle draw at noon on Sunday. Delicious food will be provided by San Remo Bakery, Cobs Bakery and Loblaws. All proceeds will go to H&S with tax receipts provided. Full info about the club can be found at www.mimicotennisclub.org.

Bayview Golf and Country Club to get second Winter Bubble
